DIY Home Security Systems
Is it possible to build a DIY home security system? To be honest, there is no point
in building your own security system as the cost to do so would probably be more
than a professionally made home security system. However, you can save substantially
on installation costs by DIY installing your own security system. So what are the
options for DIY installation of home security systems?
If we look at home security system products, the one item that immediately springs
to mind is the home alarm system. These systems usually consist of an alarm control
panel, siren/sounder unit and a selection of sensor devices. They can be purchased
in two flavors, hardwired or wireless. The option which is clearly the most appealing
to the keen DIY’er is the wireless alarm system.
A hardwired alarm system installation is beyond the reach of most DIY’ers. An alarm
installer professional would need to be called in to carry out the work – and this
will come with an expense. The reason for the expense and need for a contractor
is that it is like having your home re-wired. There will be significant disruption
to the household for quite a number of days. Walls will need to be channelled, floorboards
and skirtings will be lifted – there will be a lot of disruption.
On the other hand, with a wireless home alarm system, installation is simply a breeze.
Just screw the sensors to the wall – and that’s it! No running of unsightly cables
around the house, from room to room. Another great advantage of a wireless burglar
alarm system is its ability to be expanded very easily. Maybe you only buy a couple
of sensors when you first purchase the system with a view to adding some more at
a later date. This is no problem – installing more sensors at any time is straightforward.
To do the same for a hardwired system you would need to call out the alarm installation
engineer and suffer more disruption whilst the work is being completed.
For the keen DIY’er, there is no better solution than the wireless burglar alarm
system.
